The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has established a strict schedule for the 2026 fiscal year. Mark these dates to ensure you track your direct deposits accurately.
Master Schedule: 2026 Benefit Dates
Below is the complete breakdown of when you can expect payments for the major federal benefit programs. If a date falls on a weekend, the payment is made on the previous business day.
1. Canada Child Benefit (CCB)
- Frequency: Monthly (Every 20th).
- Q1 Dates: Jan 20, Feb 20, Mar 20.
- Max Amount: Up to $666.41/month per child (under 6).
2. GST/HST Credit
- Frequency: Quarterly (Every 3 months).
- 2026 Dates: January 5, April 2, July 3, October 5.
- Note: Payments are issued on the 5th, but if it's a weekend, it moves to the next business day (or previous, depending on bank processing).
3. Ontario Trillium Benefit (OTB)
- Frequency: Monthly (Every 10th).
- Next Dates: Jan 9, Feb 10, Mar 10.
Why Is My Payment Late?
If you have not received your payment by the scheduled date, do not panic. The CRA advises waiting 5 business days before contacting them. Common delays include:
- Processing delays at your financial institution (banks may vary by 24h).
- Changes in your eligibility status (income change or marital status).
- Outstanding debts to the federal government (garnishment).
Will CCB increase in 2026?
Yes. The CCB payments are indexed to inflation every July. The current amounts will remain in effect until June 2026, after which a new cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) will be applied.
What time does the deposit hit?
Direct deposits typically appear in your account between 12:01 AM and 6:00 AM local time on the payment date. If you receive cheques by mail, please allow up to 10 business days.
Do I need to apply for GST?
No. You are automatically considered for the GST/HST credit when you file your annual income tax return. You do not need to submit a separate application.
