Eligibility Criteria (The $90k Rule)

To qualify for the CDCP in 2026, you must meet all of the following four criteria. If you do not meet these, you may need to seek private coverage.

  • Residency: You must be a Canadian resident for tax purposes.
  • Tax Return: You must have filed your tax return for the previous year (2024/2025).
  • No Insurance: You must NOT have access to dental insurance through your employer, pension, or a private plan.
  • Income Limit: Your adjusted family net income must be less than $90,000.

What Is Covered?

The plan covers a wide range of oral health services recommended by a dental professional. Examples of covered services include:

  • Preventive services: Cleaning, polishing, sealants, and fluoride.
  • Diagnostic services: Examinations and X-rays.
  • Restorative services: Fillings (white or silver) and crowns.
  • Dentures: Removable dentures (full or partial).
  • Endodontic services: Root canal treatments.
Is the coverage 100% free?

Not always. If your family income is below $70,000, the co-pay is 0% (free). If your income is between $70,000 and $79,999, you pay 40%. If between $80,000 and $90,000, you pay 60% of the cost.

Does my dentist accept CDCP?

Many providers are participating. You should ask your oral health provider if they have signed up for the CDCP or search the official Sun Life provider list before booking an appointment.

How do I apply?

If you are eligible, you should receive a letter from Service Canada with an invitation code. You can then apply online or by phone. Once approved, Sun Life will mail you a welcome package with your member card.
