The ‘Automatic’ Transfer: See If Your Account Qualifies Today

Official Eligibility List: Cold Weather Payment 2026

Check the official DWP eligibility list for the £25 Cold Weather Payment.

Data verified against DWP 2026 guidelines.

Is Your Account 'Configured' for Payment?

The Cold Weather Payment system is designed to be frictionless. Unlike other grants that require lengthy application forms, this £25 support is triggered by your existing benefits profile. This is known as the "Automatic Transfer" mechanism.

However, simply receiving a benefit does not guarantee the payment. Your account must meet specific "qualifying criteria" (often related to disability, age, or young children) to be flagged by the DWP system when the temperature drops.

Priority Group 1: Pension Credit

This is the "Gold Standard" for eligibility. If you receive Pension Credit, you almost always qualify for Cold Weather Payments automatically.

  • Status: You do not need to do anything.
  • Requirement: Simply living in an area where the temperature has triggered (0°C or below).

Priority Group 2: Universal Credit

For Universal Credit claimants, eligibility is more complex. You cannot be employed or self-employed (unless you have a disabled child). Additionally, you must meet ONE of the following conditions:

  • Health Condition: You have a "limited capability for work" (LCW) or "limited capability for work and work-related activity" (LCWRA) element.
  • Young Family: You have a child under 5 years old living with you.
  • Disabled Child: You receive a disabled child element in your claim (eligibility applies even if you are employed).

Priority Group 3: Legacy Benefits

If you are still on older style benefits like Income Support or Jobseeker's Allowance (income-based), you qualify if you have:

  • A disability or pensioner premium.
  • A child who is disabled.
  • Child Tax Credit that includes a disability element.
  • A child under 5 living with you.

What If I Don't Receive Anything?

If you believe you meet the criteria above and your postcode has been triggered (check the Blue Button above), but you haven't received payment within 14 days, it may be a system error.

You should contact the Pension Service or sign in to your Universal Credit journal to leave a note for your work coach. Explicitly state: "My area was triggered for Cold Weather Payment on [Date], and I meet the eligibility criteria. Please investigate."

I work full-time. Can I get this?

Generally, no. Cold Weather Payments are targeted at low-income households on specific benefits. However, if you are on Universal Credit AND have a disabled child element, you may still qualify even if you are working.

Does Personal Independence Payment (PIP) count?

No. Receiving PIP or DLA alone does not qualify you for Cold Weather Payments. You must be in receipt of one of the main income-related benefits listed above (like Pension Credit or Universal Credit).

I have a baby. Is it automatic?

If you are on Universal Credit or Income Support and have a child under 5, you should be flagged automatically. If your child was born recently, ensure you have reported this change to the DWP so their system knows you now qualify.
