The SASSA Disability Grant pays R2,400 per month from April 2026. Payments follow SASSA's staggered schedule — Disability Grant holders are paid after Older Persons. You can check your payment date by dialling the SASSA helpline from your Vodacom, MTN, or Cell C number. Once paid, funds land in your Postbank account or linked wallet such as Capitec Pay or FNB eWallet. Check your next payment date now so you can plan your household budget in time.

⚠️ Your grant could be suspended

Missing your medical review can stop payments — act before your review…

Check your status now

The Disability Grant requires a medical or functional assessment to confirm your condition prevents you from working. If you miss a review or your records are out of date, SASSA can suspend your grant without warning. Make sure your SA ID is valid at DHA and your bank details at Postbank or Capitec are current. A Standard Bank or TymeBank account linked incorrectly is a common reason for delayed payments. Check your status on the SASSA portal before your next payment date to avoid losing your R2,400.

Where to collect your grant 🏦

PostbankIn-person collection
See collection steps ➔

Postbank is the primary payment channel for SASSA grants across South Africa. You collect your Disability Grant at any Postbank branch or SASSA pay-point using your SA ID. For families in rural areas, this is often the most reliable option. Bring your original SA ID — not a copy. If someone in your household collects on your behalf, they need a letter of authority plus their own SA ID. Vodacom and MTN users can confirm the payment has been processed before travelling to the pay-point, saving you an unnecessary trip.

Capitec PayDigital payment option

Capitec Pay lets SASSA grant recipients receive their Disability Grant directly into a Capitec account — no queues at a pay-point. Simply link your Capitec GlobalOne card details at your SASSA office during your next update. You can also use FNB eWallet or SnapScan for day-to-day spending once your grant arrives. TymeBank and Standard Bank clients follow a similar process. Check your balance via the Capitec app or by dialling the USSD code from any Telkom or Cell C number.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do I apply for the Disability Grant at a SASSA office?

To apply, visit your nearest SASSA office in person with your valid SA ID (13-digit number), a completed medical assessment report confirming your disability prevents you from working, and proof of income or assets for the Means Test. SASSA staff will capture your details and open a Postbank account for payment if you do not already have one. You can also choose to receive funds via Capitec Pay or FNB eWallet by providing your account details at the office. Processing may take up to three months. You will be notified of the outcome — SASSA does not guarantee approval, and you may appeal a declined application within 90 days.

How much is the Disability Grant in 2026 and when is it paid?

The Disability Grant is R2,400 per month, effective April 2026, following the annual adjustment announced in the Budget Speech. Payment follows SASSA's staggered monthly schedule: Older Persons are paid first, then Disability Grant recipients, then children's grants. The exact dates are published each year on sassa.gov.za. You can check your payment status by calling the SASSA helpline from your Vodacom or MTN number, or by logging in to the SASSA online portal. Funds arrive in your Postbank account or your linked Capitec account on your scheduled payment day. Standard Bank and TymeBank clients should confirm their account details are correctly registered with SASSA.

What should I do if my Disability Grant application is declined or delayed?

If your application is declined, SASSA must give you written reasons. You have 90 days to lodge a formal appeal with the Minister of Social Development. Visit your SASSA office with your SA ID and the decline letter to start the process. If your grant is delayed rather than declined, first check that your Postbank or Capitec Pay account details are correctly linked — a mismatch is a common cause of delay. You can also check via the SASSA website or by calling from a Vodacom, MTN, or Cell C number. Never share your PIN, OTP, or banking details with anyone claiming to act on SASSA's behalf, as this is a common scam.
